As Paul Begala points out on Real Time with Bill Maher (epsiode 158), not a single major TV News Network covered the very important hearings on the healthcare industry.
If anyone has been impressed with Michael Moore’s documentary Sicko, it is coming to life before our eyes in Congress, with insured patients sharing their stories and demonstrating the terrible callousness of the insurance companies. All this, so far has been getting very little attention.
One of the important testimonies was given by Wendell Potter, former head of Public Relations for CIGNA, one of the nation’s largest insurers. Mr Potter letter appeared on PBS to further discuss the matter with Bill Moyers which made for a gut wrenching interview as he explains the villainy of deception practiced by the major insurance companies.
To me the PBS interview is a great starting point, if your interested. Amazing really.
